Work with us

Spear is a dynamic, growing youth employment charity that coaches young people to overcome barriers and thrive in work and life.

We do this through the Spear Programme.

Our open and supportive work culture has won national awards and we’re always looking for talented people to join us in roles at our London office, and around the UK at our many Spear Centres.

What’s it like to work at Spear?

Three of our team share their career journey and what they love about Spear.

Sam

My first job was being a waiter in a café at age 14. Before joining Spear, I was at university and worked at Southern Co-op, where I was promoted to Duty Manager.

I joined Spear Bournemouth as a Graduate Coach (now called Assistant Coach) in August 2022. I’m now in the London office, working as an Employer Partnerships Executive.

What do you love about Spear?
I know the work we do makes a difference to people’s lives but importantly, we’re not making changes for people – we’re supporting and empowering them to make changes for themselves.

Pip

My first job was in fashion PR. This morphed into heading up the events team for London Fashion Week. Continuing in a sales role but to fit around family life, I then sold media space for a magazine from home before joining Spear.

In March 2017, I joined Spear’s London office as a Key Supporter Manager. Now I’m a Key Supporter Senior Manager.

What do you love about Spear?
Apart from a unique culture of fun and excellence, I’m so proud to connect people to Spear as it is so effective. Helping others discover their purpose and impact through our work is a real privilege.

Paul

Before Spear, I worked as a youth volunteer on a programme providing support for teenagers. I joined as a Graduate Coach (now called Assistant Coach) in June 2023. I’m now a Centre Manager at a London Spear Centre.

What do you love about Spear?
Having the privilege of planning and delivering coaching sessions that empower and inspire young people who wouldn’t have access to coaching; helping them embrace personal growth, social responsibility and meaningful change.

Diversity and belonging

We actively champion diversity, not for its own sake but because we know differences in backgrounds, ways of thinking and opinions make us a stronger organisation.

Our coaching approach helps us build and maintain a culture where everyone not only has a seat at the table, but also feels like they truly belong.

Spear is a Christian charity working in a range of settings, in partnership with people from all faiths and none. Our Christian faith underpins everything we do; it motivates and sustains us and is core to our mission. Prayer and worship are embedded in our daily working practices. There is a genuine occupational requirement for our team to be practising Christians and share our belief in a triune God. We welcome applications from people of all denominations and expressions of Christianity. Beyond this, we are an equal opportunities employer.

Our values

Courageous faith

We pray and worship together. Shared faith is our compass. We draw strength from God. We step into the new and unknown with trust in God.

Healthy stretch

We bring high challenge and high support to help people grow. We offer and ask for considered and constructive feedback. We pursue the transformation we believe is possible – for ourselves and others.

Real togetherness

We serve each other and connect as people, not just colleagues. We work in partnership to bridge social divides. We embrace diversity and help everyone belong.

Bold impact

We set a high bar and endeavour to reach it. We take risks and learn as we seek to grow our impact. We bring professional heads and passionate hearts to deliver lasting change.

Collective celebration

We champion others, calling out the gold whenever we see it. We take our work seriously but don’t take ourselves too seriously. We bring joy, lightness and laughter to our work.
