Spear is the new name for Resurgo

26 January 2026

Youth employment charity Resurgo has today relaunched under the name Spear, reflecting its total focus on the highly effective Spear Programme.

The award-winning charity, which was founded in 2003, launched a new website. The site puts the voices and stories of young people at its heart.

Over 70% of young people who complete the Spear Programme get into work or study and are still there a year later.

Spear set to grow

Iona Ledwidge, Spear CEO, said: "The Spear name reflects who we are and the impact we create every day: breaking down barriers and giving young people real opportunities. In 2026, we plan to accelerate the growth of Spear. We'll keep investing in quality and innovation, making sure every young person gets the best support possible."

Spear began at St Paul's church in Hammersmith, London, as a way to connect with unemployed local young people. The need was such that the programme quickly grew and so did the number of Spear Centres. There are now 18 across the UK, from Bournemouth to Gateshead.

The spear logo symbolises the dynamic, forward moment momentum of the organisation: breaking through barriers, as the Spear Programme does in the lives of young people.

A way forward

Former Spear trainee La'Seye, who did the Spear Programme in London, said: "Spear gave me a way forward and another chance. It gave me a reason to show up...for myself and my future."

La'Seye is now a Spear Ambassador and works as a receptionist at the luxury beauty chain Margaret Dabbs.
