Fundraise for Spear
Become part of the story of young people’s lives transformed. Here’s how we use our funds, and some ideas to help you get started.
Why fundraise for Spear
Government research ranks the Spear Programme as one of the UK’s most effective youth employment programmes.
We work with young people aged 16-24 facing some of the biggest barriers to employment, such as poverty, mental health challenges and low qualifications.
Our coaching approach means we equip them with the skills and mindset not just to get work but to thrive in it; over 70% of those who complete Spear not only get into work or study, but are still there a year later.
In supporting Spear, you’re supporting young people across the UK to find a proven route to a better life.
Hear below from former trainee La’Seye and how the Spear Programme gave her the tools to change her life.
“Spear gave me a way forward, and another chance. It gave me a reason to show up… for myself and my future.”
1. Choose your way

Get physical
Lots of our supporters run, walk, cycle or dance to raise money for Spear. Whether it’s a 5k or a marathon, why not set yourself a physical challenge?

Get social
From coffee mornings to dinner parties, gatherings are an easy way to raise money and support young people.

Get creative
Cake sale? Concert? Fashion show? Come up with your own fundraiser ideas – we’d love to hear about them. Just drop us a line.
2. Set up your page
Once you’re ready to start fundraising, get set up on JustGiving. Head to our JustGiving page and click “Start fundraising”.
3. Ask people to support you: Some tips
Be bold
You could try asking for a specific amount or suggest several options at different levels.
Share your reasons
Tell people what inspires you about Spear and the difference their donation will make to the lives of unemployed young people across the UK.
Personalise
When you ask people to support you, if you include an individual message, they’re more likely to feel appreciated rather than being part of a blanket mailshot.
4. Spread the word
We’d love to share the news of your fundraising event. Just tag us on any social media posts you do and make sure you’re following us on Instagram.
5. Collect
If you’ve raised money through JustGiving, you don’t need to do anything. Otherwise, you can send funds via our donations page. Thank you!
